The Blood Diaries is the first part of the trilogy “The Parasite Archives”. Using a multidisciplinary approach that combines parasite culture and imaging, video installations, soundscapes, blood watercolors, and storytelling the exhibition documents the diaries of the malaria parasites to find parallels between parasitic life cycles and the paths of marginalized social groups in an exclusionary society. These diaries also evidence the impact of colonization and racism in the distribution of malaria worldwide.

Blood has in many contexts both clear-cut and ambivalent interpretations. Blood evokes revulsion and fear, and is associated with violence and injury. Blood reminds us of our own fragility. Blood is both the elixir of life and a bodily excretion. Blood is dangerous and life-saving. Blood is repulsive and desirable. Blood is the nourishment and habitat of parasites. Blood is the link between those parasites and marginalised people . The Blood Diaries are the chronicles of these organisms. Blood stories documented in a DIY research laboratory and told from a deconstructed (non-)scientific perspective.

Accompanied by keos’s organic soundscapes, viewers are confronted with the life cycle of a blood parasite through video installations, haemato-watercolours and storytelling, serving as a metaphor for the experiences of queer and racialised people who, in their search for a home, are forced to live on the margins of society.
